TECO VFD Fault Codes
Every drive trip is downtime on the line, and in OEE it is lost availability. These are the fault and warning codes of TECO A510, A510s, F510, E510, E510s and L510s inverters: what each code means, the likely causes, the first checks, and how to log it so it stops coming back.
How faults show
A510, A510s, F510 and E510s: when a fault trips, the keypad shows the fault code (for example OC, OV or OL1), the fault relay output energizes and the motor coasts to stop (some faults let you choose the stop method).
Warnings and self-diagnosis codes (for example OV or UV (flash), OH2, bb1, SE01) flash on the keypad while the fault relay stays off and the drive keeps running; a self-diagnosis code blocks run commands until the setting is corrected. Pressing RESET hides a flashing warning, and it comes back after 5 seconds if the condition is still there.
To restart after a fault: press RESET on the keypad or switch on a digital input set to 17 (Fault reset); the A510, A510s and F510 manuals also allow powering down until the keypad goes blank and powering up again. Faults are stored in the fault history (group 12 parameters; groups 12 and 13 on the A510s).
Lockouts: after OH1 three times in five minutes wait 10 minutes, after OL2 four times in five minutes wait 4 minutes. Messages such as RDE, WRE, VRYE and RDP appear only on the LCD keypad.
E510 and L510s: the keypad shows codes such as OC-A or LV-C, and TECO sorts them into faults that cannot be recovered manually (for example -OV-, -LV-, CtEr, EPr: consult the supplier), faults that reset manually or automatically (OC-A, OC-C, OC-d, OC-S, OV-C, PF) and faults that reset manually only (OC, OL1, OL2, LV-C, OVSP).
Automatic restart uses 07-01 (delay) and 07-02 (number of attempts, 0 means no auto restart). Parameter 13-02 shows the last three faults; pressing RESET while 13-02 is displayed clears all three.
On F510 drives over 20HP wait at least 15 minutes; the E510s manual also asks for 15 minutes on larger ratings. On E510 and L510s the DC link capacitors remain charged for five minutes after power is removed, and the equipment must not be opened before then.
Do not touch the drive circuitry, replace parts, or connect or disconnect internal connectors while the CHARGE indicator is on. Follow lockout/tagout and your site's safe-work procedures, and check the manual for your exact model before you act.
Quick lookup
Faults trip the inverter and stop the machine, so in OEE they are availability losses; warnings are early signs.
Type a code or a word (over current, voltage, overheat, phase) to filter the list. Click a code for its causes and first checks. Each code's details name the TECO drives whose manual prints it; where two families give one code two meanings, both rows are here, with the family in brackets.

Log it, or the same alarm comes back
A fault trips the inverter and the motor coasts to a stop, so in OEE terms it is a breakdown. Log the code, the machine and the minutes lost, every time, even when a reset clears it in seconds; a flashing warning is an early sign worth logging too.
- Reason code: the code plus the drive, for example TECO E510 OC-A, conveyor 3, so an over current on every start shows up as a pattern.
- Loss bucket: a stop that needs a reset, a part or a technician is an availability loss (breakdown). Stops shorter than your micro-stop threshold go to performance (minor stops). The six big losses page shows where each one belongs.
- What to count: how often each code fires per week and the minutes it costs. Two numbers a week turn "that alarm comes up sometimes" into a ranked list. The MTBF and MTTR calculator and the downtime cost calculator do the math.
The free OEE tracker logs each stop with its reason and turns the week into a downtime Pareto, so the code that costs the most rises to the top.
fabrico.io has a guide to VFD fault codes. A fault code tells you what the drive measured, not what happened at the machine in the seconds before. Fabrico's camera-based OEE software syncs line camera video with machine data, so you can replay the moment the line stopped next to the trip.
Frequently asked questions
What does OC mean on a TECO VFD?
On the A510, A510s, F510 and E510s, OC is an output overcurrent trip: the output current went above about 200% of the drive rated current. TECO lists acceleration or deceleration time too short, a contactor switching on the drive output, a motor bigger than the drive, and a short circuit or ground fault. Lengthen the acceleration and deceleration times, check the motor wiring, and try the drive with the motor disconnected. The A510s, F510 and E510s also split it by phase: OCA during acceleration, OCC at constant speed and OCd (OCD on the F510) during deceleration. On the E510 and L510s the same split is OC-A, OC-C, OC-d and OC-S (at start), and plain OC there means overcurrent detected while stopped, a detection circuit fault for the supplier.
How do I reset a fault on a TECO A510 or F510 drive?
Fix the cause, then press RESET on the keypad, switch on a digital input programmed to 17 (Fault reset), or power down until the keypad goes blank and power up again. The fault stays in the fault history (group 12 parameters). Two lockouts apply: after OH1 (heatsink overheat) three times in five minutes wait 10 minutes, and after OL2 (inverter overload) four times in five minutes wait 4 minutes before resetting. Automatic retry is set with 07-01 and 07-02, and the keypad flashes Retry while it counts down.
Why is a code flashing on my TECO drive while the motor keeps running?
A flashing code is a warning or a self-diagnosis code, not a trip. The fault relay does not energize and the drive keeps running; the display returns to normal when the condition clears. Examples are OV or UV (flash), OH2, OT (flash), bb1 to bb8 (external baseblock input) and CE when 09-07 = 3. Self-diagnosis codes such as SE01, SE02, SE03 and HPErr flag a parameter conflict, and the drive refuses run commands until the setting is fixed. Pressing RESET hides the code, and it returns after 5 seconds if the condition is still there.
What does PF mean on a TECO E510 or L510s?
On the E510 and L510s, PF is Input phase Loss: abnormal fluctuation of the main circuit voltage. Check the main power wiring and the supply voltage; it is one of the faults that can reset manually or automatically. On the A510s, F510 and E510s, PF means Protection Fault: OH1 (or OL2 on the E510s) tripped three times in five minutes and the run command was not removed. Remove the run command, then fix the cause of the overheat or overload. Input phase loss on those drives shows as IPL.
What causes OV or low voltage faults on a TECO inverter?
OV (A510 family) and OV-C (E510, L510s) mean the DC bus voltage went too high, usually from regenerative energy when the deceleration time is too short or the load inertia is high, or from a high or unstable supply. The trip level is 410 Vdc on 200V class and 820 Vdc on 400V class drives. Increase the deceleration time, add a braking resistor or braking unit, or add an AC line reactor. Low DC bus voltage shows as UV on the A510, A510s and F510, LV on the E510s, and LV-C (during operation) or -LV- (while stopped) on the E510 and L510s: check the supply voltage, the input wiring and for a lost phase; -LV- can also mean a burnt pre-charge resistor or fuse.
How do I see the last faults on a TECO E510 or L510s?
Open parameter 13-02 (Fault Log Display). It holds the last three faults in a stack, and each new fault pushes the older ones down. Pressing RESET while 13-02 is displayed clears all three registers. On the A510, A510s and F510 the fault history is in the group 12 monitoring parameters (groups 12 and 13 on the A510s).

Fabrico, a light MES with computer vision, syncs camera footage with machine and timeline data, so you can replay the exact moment the line stopped and review the cause next to the drive's fault. Cameras also catch short stops and a line that is switched on but not producing, the losses nobody writes down. Machines connect through a PLC, a Fabrico IoT device or an AI camera.
